Material Creation Unreal Widget Tool

Material Creation Assistant Tool
I developed this tool to streamline the repetitive task of importing textures and preparing them for use in custom shaders—an often tedious and time-consuming process in environment art. The goal was to create a solution that enhances production efficiency, allowing artists to easily generate materials using selected textures rather than manually configuring each material and its associated textures. This includes automating tasks like toggling off sRGB for mask textures, adjusting compression settings based on texture type, and ensuring the correct texture group is set. Additionally, users can define a directory for the created materials or use the current active browser folder, providing flexibility in asset organization. The tool also supports setting selected materials as parents for new material instances, ensuring hierarchy when needed. While this tool could benefit many studios, it was specifically designed to address the needs of my workplace. Given the studio's exceptionally strong technical art team, identifying an area with room for improvement was both fascinating and rewarding. It represents the culmination of graduating from a technical art course, bringing together knowledge, problem-solving, and practical application to address real production challenges.
During the setup of new projects, this tool proved invaluable for importing and processing large volumes of textures. Tasks that would typically require a full day's work could be efficiently completed in just a few hours, significantly accelerating the workflow and allowing artists to focus on creativity rather than manual adjustments. Additionally, the interface was carefully designed to integrate seamlessly into Unreal Engine’s UI, ensuring it takes up minimal space while maximizing utility for the best possible workflow integration.
